Fashion Over Forty: Velvet Jeans for a Dressier Look

This post includes affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, at no cost to you! Thank you so much for your support!

If you've been following along my "Fashion over Forty" posts then you might have already guessed that I practically live in blue jeans. But there are occasions when I need/want something other than blue jeans and when I saw these black velvet pants at Loft last year I decided to order them. And guess what, they brought them back again this year! In case you are interested in these, I think they run true to size and if in between sizes, then size down.

I like that they still have the jeans look to them but a little bit dressier since they are made of velvet and they are so soft and comfortable. Available in regular, petite, tall, curvy and modern sizes.

I paired the velvet jeans with a silver gray tunic sweater (this is another hand-me-down from my sister) and a pale pink scarf I've had in my closet for a few years.
No direct link to the sweater, but I really LOVE this diamond texture sweater from Loft as an alternative and I think it looks very similar to mine. Loft  has such a great selection of sweaters!
(By the way, starting 11/16 these pants and sweater mentioned are both 40% off)

I wore my comfortable booties by Clarks. These are old but I do love this pair as an alternative to my boots. Otherwise I think these jeweled flats from Loft would look beautiful as well and make the outfit a little bit dressier. I also like these pointy toe heeled pumps and these block heel pumps look like a great option as well.

I think any color scarf would have been great with this outfit, but I picked a pink scarf because I love  to pair pink and gray! This beautiful vintage blush blanket scarf would be a great option especially for colder weather. And this pink scarf would be a thinner alternative if you don't like a blanket scarf.

My bag was purchased from Walmart a couple of years ago. I thought the pinks were a perfect match even though purchased at different places. No direct to link to my bag, but I did find this beautiful blush bag for under $20 and it has great reviews! For a higher priced real leather version I love this crossbody bag from TJ Maxx.

I did wear a layered necklace under the scarf. Just something I picked up at a shop in Germany when we visited last year. It was inexpensive but I love the simple look! This layered necklace would be something comparable.  It come with 3 layers that can be worn together or separate.

Below I've untucked the sweater. I'm not sure which way I like it better...

Below are snippets of the products mentioned in the post and I've linked them below. Remember some of these are affiliate links meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, as always at no cost to you.

10. Leather Crossbody Bag (higher priced)

So what do you think of this outfit? Would you ever wear velvet pants? They are definitely on the dressier side but can be dressed up or down depending on what top you pair them with and what kind of shoes you choose.

As always thank you so much for stopping by!!

Fashion Over Forty: Black Vest and Turquoise Turtleneck

This post includes some affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, at no cost to you! Thank you so much for your support!

Hello and happy Friday! I so enjoyed the warmths of last week's turtleneck sweater that I decided to get out the other turtleneck sweater I own for today's fashion post. It definitely has gotten colder now that we had our first snow (which luckily is all melted now!!!) and it is November after all.

Everything I am wearing in today's post is old, most of you probably have similar items in your own closets as well. But I will add links to similar items for those of you interested.

I was never a big fan of vests, but following fashion blogs over the years I've come to realize just how practical they can be, especially when I go shopping and don't want the bulk of a coat. So I decided it was time to add one to my closet. That was about two years ago, I now own two vests.

This black vest I picked up from Old Navy last year, but the identical vest is available this year as well (also available in plus sizes). Besides black it also comes in several other colors. I purchased the black because it goes with pretty much any color. This vest is a lighter weight, check out this Frost Free Puffer Vest for a warmer style.

                   >>>>Sale Alert: 30% Off Everything at Old Navy (ends 11/11)

The turquoise turtleneck I am wearing is another hand me down from my sister. It's by Esprit purchased in Germany probably several years ago and therefore I have no direct link. But I did find this beautiful mix stitch sweater at Nordstrom, and I also really love this lantern sleeve sweater. Both come in several beautiful colors. You might also like this cashmere sweater which is  more of a traditional classic style without the trendy sleeves. While searching for similar sweaters to link, I also came across this beautiful Snowflake Fair Isle SweaterRemember, with Nordstrom you do have free shipping and free return shipping, plus their return window is very generous.

My jeans are J Crew skinny jeans a few years old so I have no link. If you're looking for a pair of skinny jeans, do check out these Rockstar Super Skinny Jeans from Old Navy. If you prefer premium denim , these Paige Ankle Skinny Jeans are currently 25% off and I've good things about them!

For jewelry I'm wearing a gold leaf necklace I purchased from Loft a couple of months ago. It's no longer available. Otherwise I'm wearing my small diamond studs which are what I am wearing pretty much every day. My prescription glasses frames are by Coach purchased at my local eye care clinic.

My Moto inspired boots are old. I bought them at Bergners years before they went out of business. This pair from Macys looks similar and is marked down to under $40. Otherwise I really like these fur lined boots  but they are higher priced, and these leather moto boots look great as well.

I wanted to bring a neutral besides black to this outfit so I carried a camel colored handbag. This bag was another Goodwill bag find and I can't find any similar style of bags online. I also have no idea who the maker is (there is no logo) but I really loved it and couldn't pass it up for less than $6.

The picture below was taken by my dear daughter while we took these blog pictures. I loved the way this close up photo turned out with the bokeh in the background and wanted to share :-)

Below are snippets of items I mentioned above. Each picture is click-able and will lead you to the shop for more info.
