Easy DIY Shiplap Paper (again) and a Dogwood Blossoms Branch

Hello and welcome!

I made today's card for our new theme at Allsorts challenge where Lynn is hosting and she selected the theme of "Favorite Color". Hope you'll join us for a chance to win. This week our prize comes from Pinksy Doodles.  I decided to use the beautiful Dogwood Floral Digi on today's card.

I must say I have several favorite colors, and purple, lavender or lilac is definitely one of them! Of course I just now (as I type this) realized I confused the Dogwood tree (which blooms in either white or pink) with the Eastern Redbud which blooms in a beautiful purple, and I gave this image the wrong color....

I recently shared this card where I tried a new to me technique - Faux Shiplap, and today's card features the same technique with a different colored ink pad.

There are only two steps to make this Faux Shiplap, and I'm sharing the steps (again) in case you missed the other card.

How to make your own shiplap paper:

  • Score a piece of white card stock 3/4 inches apart using a scoring tool. You need to have good impressions so be sure to use some pressure when scoring.
  • Next I used Pumice Stone Distress Oxide ink Weathered Wood ink was used on this particular card - and swiped over the raised area. You will also transfer some ink next to the scoring lines but that's ok and this will just add to the look of shiplap paper (faux wood).

To make this particular card, I first printed the image (twice) onto white card stock, then used the faux shiplap technique above. Next I colored the leaves on this image panel with Faber Castell Polychromos pencils and I used the flowers from the other printed image which I fussy cut after coloring to add to the shiplap image panel. Some pearly accent dots were added to the flower centers.

An old script stamp (options) was used around the image with Versafine Onyx ink for some interest. My script stamp is cling so I can bend it and use only portions of the stamp. The image panel was layered onto some pastel purple card stock and then adhered to a white card base.

Thanks so much for visiting!

    1. It surely has been a popular one! We planted a pink dogwood in our front yard a few years ago but it still hasn't bloomed! Maybe this will be the year??
