Flowers Allover for Allsorts Challenge

Hello and thanks so much for visiting! We have a new theme starting today at Allsorts challenge, it's Mervi's turn to host this time and she picked the theme of Flowers Allover. By the way, this  challenge actually runs for two weeks to cover some of the summertime, so there is little extra time for everyone to join in.

As I was looking through my floral stamps, I decided this one from Just for Fun Rubber Stamps would be the perfect choice for the theme. It's one I've had for several years, received as part of my Design Team package from Just For Fun. (I no longer design for them but still have all of the stamps because I find them quite unique and beautiful. Unfortunately as I tried linking to their store, I'm getting an error message and it looks like their blog hasn't been updated since last year.....

For this card I decided to do the chalkboard technique, meaning I heat embossed the image using versamark ink and white embossing powder on black card stock. Then used my Faber Castell pencils to add some color to the flowers. I ran a white craft ink pad along the edges to make them look chalky. The sentiment is another oldie, from a chalkboard sentiment set by Whimsy Stamps and no longer available. It's all one sentiment but I cut it to use separate on the card. The word birthday has been adhered with foam tape over a strip of silk ribbon.

Today would have also been the day to share a mid-month reminder card for Penny Black and More challenge. But since my husband is home on vacation I didn't make anything. Travel plans were cancelled but we decided to do some minor updates around the house so not a lot of time in the craft room.
Anyway, there is still plenty of time to join us there for your chance to win one of the prizes. As a reminder the Penny Black and More theme is: In the Garden

Allsorts Challenge 524: Travel

Hello and welcome! It's time for new theme at Allsorts challenge. Lynn's turn to host this week and she picked the theme of "Travel" - perfect for this time of the year! Hope you can join us for a chance to win a fantastic prize by  Swedish House Crafts!

I thought this cute cat stamp by Penny Black was perfect for this theme and it's been a while since I last used this stamp. I paired it with a large background stamp I chose from Just for Fun Rubber Stamps when I was one of their design team members a few years ago. My Tonic stamp platform came in really handy for this large stamp, as I had to ink it up twice to get a good impression. I used Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide for stamping.

The cat has been stamped with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and colored with Distress Markers and Zig Clean Color brush pens. Sentiments are Quotations Sticker Sentiments by Tim Holtz. The twine I've had for a long time - a huge roll I won several years ago. It may have been by The Twinery, but I can't find a link to it anywhere. The card base is Stampin Up's Real Red card stock.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great weekend with plenty of sunshine. It's Summer performance day for my daughter's dance studio today. This  year they are doing The Swan Princess, based off the Swan Lake ballet. It's always such a joy to watch their performance!

Allsorts 456 and Papercrafters' Linky party4

Hello everyone, thanks so much for visiting! Are you ready for a fun challenge? We're playing "I Spy" this week at Allsorts ...I spy something beginning with B. Super fun theme chosen by Brenda. I hope you'll join in the fun, so many choices here!! Also, the linky for the Papercrafters Linky Party has been posted, and you can find my top pick from last week and the new linky at the end of this post as well. Don't forget - Anything Papercrafts Goes at Papercrafters Linky party.

To make my card I first inked up an  acrylic block using Zig Clean Color real brush pens. I  simply scribbled the makers on top of the block, spritzed with water and then stamped the block onto Strathmore Bristol Vellum cardstock. I let the ink dry before stamping the boat using versafine onyx ink. The boat and wheel stamps are both from Just for Fun Rubberstamps. The sentiment is an old retired one from Stampin Up. The wheel was stamped using Distress ink Broken China. I finished off the card by tying some May Arts Natural Burlap twine around the card.

I also made another quick and easy card (couldn't stop playing "I spy something beginning with B" :)

For this card my "B" is a butterfly. I used the Tim Holtz Mixed Media Butterflies Stamps and Stencil Set by Stampers Anonymous. I used this same set on Tuesday's card, if you missed that card an would like to see another way of using this set, you can see it HERE. To make this card I inked a piece of Neenah Solar white 80lb card stock using Distress Ink Evergreen Bough (the same ink I used on Tuesday's card), then placed one of the stencil patterns (which is part of the stamp set) onto the card stock and added a little more of the same ink to create a design. Using the same ink again, I stamped the sentiment, butterfly and hearts. Distressed the edges using a distressing toolthen matted with black card stock and distressed those edges as well. To finish off this card I added a sticker sentiment from Tim Holtz's Metallic Quotations set. This was then adhered to a white Neenah card base.

At Allsorts challenge we have two wonderful prizes to give away this week....sponsored by Tattered Lace  and Sizzix.  I hope you'll come join us there for a chance to win! And definitely lots of choices this week to join us, following our "I spy" theme. Be sure to visit the challenge blog to see what the rest of the team chose for their "B".

Christmas In July and Some Vacation Photos

Yes, I know it's weird making Christmas cards when we have 90 degree weather, but I was checking out some challenges yesterday to help me get back to card making, and saw that Just For Fun Rubber Stamps is now having a monthly challenge. This month it's Christmas in July with a little bit of sparkle, and since I have a few of their gorgeous Christmas stamps, which I haven't used in a long time, I decided to play along.
It's my first time making a card in over a month. I have been taking a blogging break to spend some time with family and I am including some vacation photos below, if you'd like to see what I have been up to.

I colored the image above using copic markers on xpress it blending card. A nestabilies circle die was  used to cut it out and it was adhered onto the embossed background using pop-up tape. Embossing was done using an old cuttlebug embossing folder, and an old SU punch for the scalloped edge. I finished the card off by adding some sparkly gold cord and stamped the little sentiments from the Holiday Snippets set by Penny Black (available in my Etsy shop). The white polka dots on the red ribbon were done using a white Faber Castell pitt marker.

 ---------------------------------------------------------------

Vacation time was fun, we took a 12 hour road trip to South Dakota to visit the sights in western South Dakota. It was a pretty boring drive through Iowa, Minnesota and most of South Dakota, drove through some stormy weather in Minnesota which was very scary but luckily we got out of it quickly.

Our first stop was the Badlands National Park, which I had no clue even existed, but thanks to Pinterest I discovered this unique and beautiful National Park, and it was mainly the reason why I wanted to take this trip.
A few pictures below...

There were signs everywhere to watch out for rattle snakes. We didn't see any thankfully, but kept hearing them. But we did see some sort of big horn sheep up in these hills. There were also plenty of prairie dogs on the loop road.

The photo above was taken at the last trail we hiked before leaving the park. I loved how far you could see, such amazing scenery and it reminded me of western movies I have watched.
This is me somewhere at the end of a hiking trail. There are several hiking trails, we did a few easy ones but they were very enjoyable.

At the end of the easy trails, you could just keep on hiking (at your own risk).

Some people hiked all the way up the mountains, we saw a couple of them slip but luckily they didn't fall off. Much of the mountains are covered in dry dirt and it can become slippery. Hiking shoes or cross trainers are a must.
If you don't have time to hike, or are unable to,  you can also enjoy the views by simply driving on the Badlands Scenic Byway Loop road to enjoy the sights.

Next up we went to Custer State Park, which has some amazing rock formations.

We hiked around beautiful Sylvan Lake which is supposed to be an easy trail, but somewhere along the way we got lost and ended up having to do a little bit of climbing, but even my dad who is over 70 managed with a little help.

Sylvan Lake below..

You can swim in this lake and you can rent boats. If you possibly can, bring a picnic lunch. We waited forever on our pizza at the gift shop area, only to receive a mostly unbaked pizza for lots of $$.

Me and my dad hiking somewhere by the lake where we got lost.

We took the needles highway to explore more of the park, which takes you up to where the needle's eye is. A little scary but you are rewarded with beautiful views all around.

Amazing rock formations everywhere...

We did find the needle's eye right underneath a tunnel.
And not only did we get to see the needle's eye, we were also greeted by these mountain goats inside the tunnel who did not want to let us by. I don't think they liked us being there. Some crazy people actually got out of their cars and got way too close to the animals inside a narrow tunnel.

Wildlife loop was next up, where we got to see grazing buffalo, herds of antelope and deer, curious donkeys and lots of cute prairie dogs.

From the Wildlife Loop we took Iron Mountain Road to drive to Mount Rushmore
I have seen plenty of pictures of Mount Rushmore before, which made me believe it was smaller than it actually was. We only hiked about half way up (the easy part). I believe you can hike all the way up, but that's supposed to be really hard so we stopped under their noses. We didn't want to leave my dad behind just waiting on us.
The sun was going down and so this photo isn't the best.

Here is a better (zoomed in ) view with just the mountain.

Of course we had to go see Crazy Horse Memorial which is also really close to Custer State Park. There are many many years left before this mountain carving will be complete,

and one day it will look like the statue you see in the photo below.

While out west, we also drove into Wyoming to see the Devils Tower National Monument, which is really close to the SD border.
We took the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway and stopped a couple times to visit the city of Deadwood (which was recommended to us by a lady at a visitors center) and also to hike to Roughlock Falls.

I did not like Deadwood (too touristy and too much of a gambling town - really wish we had skipped it, luckily we only spent about an hour there), but the trail to Roughlock Falls was beautiful and easy, and loved the waterfall at the end of the trail. This area of the Black Hills was shown in the movie "Dances with Wolves" with Kevin Costner. It's been a really long time since I watched that movie, might have to plan a movie night soon :-)

Well, this post definitely is one of the longest I have ever done. I should have probably done a separate travel post, for each day of our trip, but I just don't travel enough and don't live in an interesting area, to keep doing travel posts.

Thanks so much for visiting and hope I didn't bore you too much with my vacation pictures :-)

Sandpipers and Palmtrees

Good Morning and happy Friday! Hope you're all doing good and are having some fun things planned for this weekend.
It's my turn this Friday to share a creation on the Just For Fun Rubber Stamps blog. This is also my last posting there as a Designer for JFF. It has been an amazing year creating cards with their gorgeous stamps, and I know I will treasure the stamps forever. JFF does travel for their stampfest show, if you'd like to attend one in your area, be sure to sign up for their newsletter HERE, and check out the list to see if/when they will be in your area. JFF offers high quality red rubber stamps, and you can choose from unmounted, cling mounted or wood mounted, whatever you prefer.

I have two cards to share today.
First up a CAS creation. I simply stamped the music background "Tempo" several times in the middle of the card stock, then stamped the birds over the background I created. Colored them with distress markers, the grass was colored with a gelato. I stamped the music background once behind the sentiment too. Added some ribbon and twine and mounted it onto black card stock, then designer paper.

JFF Product List:

For my second card I created an ocean scene.
It didn't turn out exactly how I had pictured it in my mind, so I am going to have to play with this stamp again when I get a chance.

PS: Just for Fun is currently holding a design team call, click HERE to read all about it. They are an amazing company to design for, almost regretting it not staying on the team for another 6 months, but it's time for me to move aside and give some other wonderful crafters a chance to play with these amazing stamps, and it seems like although I no longer work outside the house, I have less spare time for card making.

Thanks so much for visiting!

A '57 Chevy and a Perfect Pair

Happy Friday!
It's the second Friday of the month, and so it was my turn today to share a creation on the Just For Fun rubber stamp blog. It's been a humid and cloudy day yesterday morning, so I decided to create two cards for today.

First up is a masculine card, using the '57 Chevy. I colored it with copic  markers and it's been cut out. Background was done using stencils.

JFF Product List

Also used:
Sun rays stencil

Next up is this fun card, which I think makes a fabulous anniversary card.

I had some fun with my distress markers here. I colored directly onto the stamps using 3 different markers per pear, then spritzed with water and stamped onto watercolor paper. The smaller pear was adhered with pop-up tape to give it more dimension.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
Hope you have a wonderful and sunny weekend!

Blossom and butterfly

I found some time yesterday morning to play with some stamps, and so I made this card. Wish I had photographed it yesterday too...it's a rainy day here today, and it's so hard to get a good photo on rainy days.

All stamps are from Just For Fun Rubber Stamps. Some of them I just received in my latest Design Team packet, and some of them I've  had for longer and used before.

The dark paper and stamping on the right side corner on my card is actually a dark brown, it appears black or navy blue on my screen. I will have to photograph this again, once the sun comes out - but not sure if that's going to happen today. The little flower was fussy cut after coloring, and then adhered to the card with dimensionals. The leaves behind the flowers are from a larger stamp, I simply cut those two out to place behind the flower. Die cut behind sentiment is from Whimsy. Butterfly was done using a Martha Stewart punch.

Product List:
(all stamps above are from JFF)
Notables 5 die (Whimsy Stamps) , MS butterfly punch
sticky pearls, brad,
Memento and Distress inks

I would also like to play along here:

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!!

Couple Silhouette

Today I have a Wedding or Anniversary  card to share, using stamps from Just for Fun Rubber Stamps. I love silhouette stamps, and had to add this dancing couple to my stamp collection.

I was going to heat emboss the image, but after trying several times, and just kept getting embossing powder elsewhere on the card (although I used an embossing buddy), I simply used versafine onyx ink to stamp the image.

I masked the circle using a diecut circle, and then inked using distress ink. I used the background stamps before removing the circle, as I wanted it to be just white.
Designer paper is from DCWV, I had it forever, so I don't know anymore which stack it's from. Sentiment is also from JFF. I embellished with some sticky rhinestones to finish off the card.

You can find the JFF Rubber Stamps here:
Main image: Couple Silhouette,
Background stamps: Ironwork Sketch, Tempo (music note), Michelanglo script

JFF has a sale going on a the moment, but it ends soon!
And don't forget, these stamps are available in wood mounted, cling mounted or unmounted rubber

Thanks so much for stopping by!
Happy Stamping!!
