Photography Challenge: Everyday Images

This is my second time I am joining Kym at A Fresh Cup of Coffee for her  Photography challenge as I do enjoy taking pictures of all kinds of things (usually things out in nature). I don't carry my DSLR camera around much anymore so these were all taken with an older iphone (11) so the pictures aren't the greatest quality.

These were the prompts for this challenge:

Dessert // Gradual // On the Road // Imperfect // Tangled // Selfie // Restful

And here is what I came up with. 

Dessert:

Mine was the Strawberry Kiwi ice cream treat, yummy!! This one was taken while on vacation in April.

Gradual

I struggled with this one, but while walking in a small botanical garden recently I thought this garden obelisk would work.

On the Road 

A country road at the edge of town.

I captured these beautiful cloud formations while on the road (I wasn't the one driving!)

Imperfect

This was so frustrating to see in my garden!! 

An imperfect, broken wing but still beautiful!

Tangled

Struggled a bit with this one but saw this recent picture on my camera roll from when the Japenese Beetles infestation was at its worse in mid-July. They all look tangled up on my beautiful yellow rose. Luckily they only seem to cause damage for about 2 weeks but sadly not everything will recover like roses.

Selfie

I'm not  fan of selfies but I somehow managed to take this one, though it appears like my cat took it :)

Restful

Her new favorite spot since purchasing this patio corner sofa.

Everyday Images - A Newly Discovered Photography Challenge

I just discovered a new (to me) photography challenge happening twice a month at A Fresh Cup of Coffee blog and since I love to take pictures of all kinds of things I thought I'd try joining in when possible. 

This time the photo prompts are:

At Home (monthly)

I found this beautiful trio of mini vases in crate at a local flower shop. It's perfect for flowers from my garden.

In my Cup

A glass in this case... Sparkling water with lemon and cucumber slices. So refreshing! And I love these pretty glasses I recently found at Marshall's 💛💛

Path

This is part of the path around Geneva Lake in Wisconsin we recently visited.

*I Spy* Photography Challenge 15

Hello and welcome! 

I'm playing along again in Lysha's "I Spy Photography" challenge and I am sharing my pictures for each prompt below.

This week's prompts:

• Turquoise
• Pill(s)
• Dots of Stripes
• Starts with an "A"
• Your Choice

I struggled with some of these and waited until yesterday to take some of the photos. Really shouldn't have been a struggle but I tend to overthink and actually needed ideas from my husband :-)

Turquoise:

A picture I have hanging in the hallway. I have enough turquoise in the house that this shouldn't have to be a struggle, yet nothing seemed good enough and my husband suggested this picture. Plenty of turquoise in the sky here.

Save up to 25% on home decor. Valid 4/18 - 4/24.

Pills :

I don't take any medication on a regular basis, but did have these in the medicine cabinet that my brother sent me over from Germany years ago - a natural based sinus pill that is not available in traditional US pharmacies. I've only taken 4 of them and they expired 4 years ago 👀, time to throw them out!!

Dots or Stripes:

This was another one I shouldn't have struggled with, but I did!! My husband's idea (again) to photograph one of our cats. Of course Thomas didn't want to cooperate so you can't see his stripes very well here.

Starts with an "A"

I thought about "above" when I took the photo for this prompt, but when I looked at the photo I also spied an "airplane" :-)

My Choice:

A beautiful Magnolia tree at a local park with a small bird nest hidden in between the branches. Wonder how long it will take until the Magnolia tree in my garden will be this tall!! Unfortunately last spring the squirrels chewed off most branches and it's now smaller than it was when we purchased it!!

"I Spy" Photography Challenge No. 11

Hello and welcome!

I'm joining in with Lysha's "I Spy Photography" challenge again this week and sharing my photos for each prompt below. By the way anyone is invited to join in. Lysha posts the details about the upcoming prompts a week ahead so you can take photos throughout the week. It's what I *try* to do but these were all taken this Friday and Saturday when our weather finally warmed up again! The rest of last week was just cold, wet and windy!

I Spy: Puzzled

I Spy: Journal

I don't currently keep a journal but remembered this pretty one from many years ago with its silky cover I brought over with me (along with a few others I had written) when I moved to the States, so I decided to get it out and photographed. Maybe I'll make some time to read it too :)

I Spy: Abstract

Thomas studying my abstract art 😎. I learned of this fun technique last year from Joanne's blog and we had so much fun doing it! The kids and I each made one of these, this is the one I made. We're just keeping them in the garage so I took it outside for a photo. 

A closeup below - I love how a heart was formed unintentionally. And I can also make out a strange looking face. Funny that I didn't notice it before photographing it. Can you see it?

[By the way, these are so fun to do on a warm and sunny day outside, all you need to do is select a few colors of  paint (we used acrylic craft paint), squirt some onto onto a canvas in no particular way, then for the fun part, use water balloons (I had purchased these from Target after Joanne's recommendation, also available on Amazon) to throw at the canvas. You can see detailed photos on Joanne's blog.]

I Spy: Path

We had a beautiful first day of spring, a perfect day to hike this path along a local lake.

I Spy: My Choice:

Our weather was warming up on Friday and I went to take more pictures of my snowdrops. This little guy was buzzing around, the first bee of the year! I love how this picture turned out!

I Spy - Photography Challenge No. 10

Hello and welcome! 

It's been a while since I managed to join in Lysha's I Spy Photo challenge! In February we got got hit by the coldest temperatures of the year which seemed to last forever and I was just uninspired to take pictures. I did snap a few around the house and outside the door for some of the prompts given but they weren't enough and I just never got around to completing them all!

And then of course my favorite way of taking photos is with my DSLR camera but as you can imagine I don't carry that with me on a regular basis when out and about, and I rarely think to snap photos with my phone...

But I'm happy to have managed to snap enough pictures for this week's prompts. I'm also sharing a few photos I've taken for previous prompts at the end of the post :-)

Last weekend we had some beautiful spring like weather and I decided that it was the perfect time to go on a late winter hike to Iowa's Wildcat Den State Park. Well, it turned out to be not so perfect after all as there still was so much snow on the trails and if not snow then mud which made it all very slippery even though we had somewhat decent trail shoes. So we only hiked one trail and then turned around and went to a nearby shopping mall instead. 3 out of 5 of today's pictures are from our hike. 

I Spy -Texture

I Spy - Fun

My husband having fun hiking on a late winter day (last weekend). (Although in this photo he was trying not to slip on the muddy grounds.)

This one would have been so perfect for the "textures" prompt as well! 

I Spy -Tall

A look up at the tall trees.

I wanted to share another one - this one (below) I've taken last year on a November hike (if you're a blog follower then you would have already seen it in this post), same park different location!

I just love this photo so much, the way the sun hits the tree tops!

I Spy - Shoes

My beautiful snowdrops in my backyard just started to bloom this past week!

I love the sparkles in the snow and the blue shadows! It's easy to tell it was freezing outside!

I'm in the process of re-writing favorite recipes into a new cookbook.

This little guy was so thankful for the old bread I had given him. He just sat her on the bannister and allowed me to take his picture.

Collection:

Some of my favorite wood mounted rubber stamps. I recently re-arranged things in my craft room again (it's always a work in progress and never done!!) and I'm not sure if I'll keep these on the top shelf here or not. I love these wood mounted stamps displayed but they take away so much room!! Too cute to unmount though!!

Yellow: 

A yellow rose which was part of a bouquet of flowers I used in one of last week's photo prompts. 

Tiny:

My daughter bought this tiny turtle on our last Myrtle Beach vacation. It's about as small a quarter and I thought it would qualify for something tiny even though it doesn't look as tiny in the picture. 

Photographer's Choice

Black and white dried flowers in my backyard. They may be old and dried up but I always leave them until the spring. I think they look pretty!

Photographer's Choice

Another closeup of some old dry flowers in a flower pot. Not as pretty as when they are in full bloom, but I still think they are too pretty to toss, so they stay until spring.

Looking at this picture I realize I could have shared something like this for last week's backyard photo prompt as the neighbor's homes are blurred out.
