Monochromatic Scene with Lavinia and Penny Black Stamps

Hello and welcome!

It's Saturday again and that means a new theme starts today at  Allsorts challenge. We'd love for you to join us! Our optional theme chosen by Lynn is "Scenic (or Anything Goes)". There are two prizes to be won, a beautiful Indigo Blu stamp and a choice of 3 Ruth Hamilton Designs images.

A scenic card is a perfect opportunity to ink up Lavinia stamps. Here I combined them with some Penny Black stamps too.

I started out by inking up some hills using a torn copy paper mask and a small die cut circle for the sun. I used Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron Distress inks.

The pine trees and flower (Lavinia's Fairy Fir Tree Small and Lavender stamps) were stamped using Mowed Lawn Distress ink, then I stamped the fairy boy (Pan) and hare (from Wild Hares Small set) using Versafine Onyx ink. I wanted to add some flying birds in the sky and found these from Penny Black's set Nature's Friends. The set also included the stamp with the sitting bird and branches and decided it would make a nice foreground so I stamped it using the same black ink.

The sentiment is part of the Hero Arts set Cowboy Adventure. Thought it was perfect for the card.

I used a Sakura Stardust gel pen to add some highlights (many thanks to Pauline for helping me find the right pen to use!!)

You can find some of the products I use here. These and some of the links above are affiliate links meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase through the links but as always at no additional cost to you.

For your inspiration, below is another similar card I made previously using Lavinia's Pan, the same pine tree and a different hare.

Bird's Eye View

Hello and welcome! It's the start of a new challenge at Allsorts and it's my turn to host this time around. Thought it would be fun to play "I Spy Something Beginning with B" and I did find lots of things in my craft room starting with B :) I'm sure you do to and hope you will join us for a chance to win. We have two prizes this week, a gift voucher from Pearlywinks plus 2 Paper Discovery stencils.

It wasn't easy deciding on what image to use because I do have so many images showcasing something beginning with "b" but then remembered this stamp featuring a bird sitting on a branch full of spring blossoms I had recently purchased and not used yet.

The stamp is from Penny Black - Bird's Eye View - stamped on Bristol Vellum paper and colored using my Zig Clean Color brush pens with a Zig Detailer watercolor brush.

My card design was  inspired by the current The Card Concept challenge:

As you can see I used similar colors and a bird theme to make the card. The fun part about The Card Concept challenge is that we are to define a card style as posted on their blog. I think this one is a mix of freestyle collage and shabby chic.

After coloring, I inked the card with some Mowed Lawn Distress ink and then used a stencil from this Tim Holtz set for some interest along with my old favorite French Script background stamp by SU.

Related Products:

The sentiment is from the Penny Black set Big Love, another newer one in my craft room but have used it twice before already. "Adventure Awaits" is a sentiment from Tim Holtz' Sticky Quotations foil sticker set. The exact set is no longer available but I did find some other options that may be of interest.

Before adhering to to the card base, I added a staple (which you cannot see) and then tied some black and white gingham ribbon on it.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Fluffy Cat Photographer and Some Stenciling for Stamping Sensations Mid Month

Hello and welcome! It's the 18th of the month and that means it's time for some midmonth inspiration at the Stamping Sensations challenge blog where this month our theme is "I Love....". Still plenty of time to join us for a chance to win a wonderful Penny Black prize.

And here is what I made:

If you've been following my blog for some time then you know that I love cats, not only my real life critters but also Penny Black's cat stamps :-) This one is called "Snap Shot". I also love stenciling, my DSLR camera and hobby photography (I'm a novice, I just enjoy doing it), as well as my new butterflies die set

I started out by stenciling the design on Bristol Vellum paper using my Penny Black Hypnotic stencil. The cat was stamped on Canson Montval paper then watercolored using my Zig Clean Color brush pens and Zig Detailer watercolor brush (which btw. I both also love) I fussy cut this and then glued onto the stenciled card front. I didn't bother fussy cutting around the bird and whiskers, instead I simply stamped the image directly onto the card front first.

I cut a line of grass using an inked piece of card stock and my scissors. The quote was typed on the computer and printed out. Butterflies were done with my new favorite butterfly die set Soaring by Penny Black.

Thanks so much for visiting! Remember you can still join us until the end of April and up to 3 times with a different creation.

A Sunset Fishing Scene - Masculine Card for Allsorts Challenge

Hello and welcome! It's time already for a new theme at Allsorts challenge, this time our challenge runs for 2 weeks over Easter as we know many of you will be busier than usual and will appreciate the extra time to join us. We have 2 fabulous prizes from Craft Stash to give away this time,  Woodware and AALL and Create stamps.

So for the next two weeks our theme is "Masculine". Hope to see you joining in!

I decided to create a scenic card using one of my old Flourishes stamps. Unfortunately the company is no longer in business and I purchased this set off eBay a couple of years ago. This is my first time using it. The set is called Kids Play (or kids at play) and the only one I found online is on eBay UK but you never know... it might show up on eBay or Etsy here in the US at some point.

To make my sky/lake I used a circle die as a mask then inked with  Antique Linen, Victorian VelvetSeedless PreservesBlueprint Sketch and Chipped Saphire Distress inks/oxides. I placed a post it note where I wanted the horizon to be and inked up the sky first. After removing the post it note, I inked up the water in a similar way, and also swiped my Chipped Saphire and Broken China ink pads across the "water". The silhouette image was stamped with Versafine Onyx ink using a stamp platform/positioner. At this point I had already removed the circle mask.

The sentiment is a new one from Penny Black's newest release - Love Big. It may sound like a Valentine's set but it's not, instead it includes some great inspirational quotes so had to have it.

My patterned paper came as part of a prize I recently won from entering DL.Art challenge. It came with a paper pack by Simple Stories. Thought this camera themed background paper was perfect to use here as it surely appears that this boy is enjoying a lakeside vacation.

On the right side I added a notebook die cut. I've had this die for a looooong time from when I was part of the Whimsy Stamps design team, so it's no longer available. Before adhering to the card base, I tied some natural jute twine around the card.

Thanks so much for visiting! I hope you have a Happy Easter! I won't be posting next Saturday as this time the challenge runs for two weeks, but I will be back on the 18th with a new card.
