Good morning! How has your week been? We're having some summery weather here in Illinois (almost seems like spring has missed us), my Magnolia tree (that I planted last year) is finally blooming, but unfortunately the squirrels decided to steal some of the buds, and since the tree is still small there aren't many left. Silly animals ... But the blossoms do smell delicious so who can blame them :0)
It's Saturday so it's time for a new theme at Allsorts challenge, as well as the new Papercrafters' Linky Party. If you're new to my blog, please note - these are two separate things, and the theme I am posting about is just for Allsorts challenge. The Papercrafters' Linky Party is always anything goes...it's just a fun feature here on my blog for papercrafters to share any papercraft they recently made.
Anyway...if you are here to join in the "Anything Goes" Papercrafters' Linky Party, you can find the linky tool at the end of this post.
This week at Allsorts challenge Mervi is our host and she wants to see "Fancy Folds". This is always one of the most challenging things for me to create ... I just don't do fancy folds a lot, but had fun looking through the internet until I finally just decided on a "gate fold" card. I know it's nothing spectacular but it's not an ordinary card fold so I hope it counts :)
Above is the card closed up. I used some pretty designer papers from Prima Marketing (I am sure the pack I used isn't available anymore, but I think all their packs are so pretty and currently (as I type this) on sale at Scrapbook.com . I made a sliding closure band with a simple strip of card stock, glued together in the middle and finished off with a large prima flower I've had forever.
Here is the card opened up.
The cute hedgehog stamp is Penny Black's "Message from Above". I think this has been retired by Penny Black but you might still find it at some online shops or ebay. I heat embossed on Bristol Vellum card stock
using Versafine Onyx ink
and clear embossing powder
. Coloring was done with Zig Clean Color markers
. I decided to decorate the sides a little bit too by adding some clouds (I made a stencil with a sticky note and cloud dies (similar)
, placed the clouds on the white paper and then inked with tumbled glass distress ink. After removing the cloud masks, the white puffy clouds were revealed. I used the grass from the Penny Black set Enjoy Life to add some stamped grass to the card. The little butterflies are also from a penny black set, but it got separated from the set and I am not sure which set it belongs to.
In case you'd like to know... I started out with a 8.5 inches x 4.25 inches card stock, scored at both ends at 2 1/8th inches and then folded it. I cut the panels slightly shorter to fit with little border around. My card is a 4.25 inch square when closed.
There isn't really any room for a message inside the card so I added a mini envelope to the back of the card. I think this is a cute way to include a little message
The envelope was made with an old envelope die by Whimsy Stamps and no longer available. If you're interested in making your own envelopes of various sizes, then you might like the Envelope Punch Board
by We R Memories Keepers. I haven't personally used this tool, but heard many good things about it.
