Let's Color Linky Party 10

Hello and thanks so much for visiting! Can't believe it's already June. This is going to be a really busy (but fun) month for me - I have family visiting from overseas - and I won't be spending much time online. But I didn't want to close the linky party as I have a paid subscription with inlinkz and wanted to get the most out of it.

Thank you all that played along last month! There were lots of wonderful entries and it's always fun to see what you all have been coloring. I try to comment on every entry, but just to let you know, I am unable to comment on entries requiring a google plus account. I also haven't commented on instagram entries, because I do my commenting on my laptop and don't remember my instagram password which I would need on my laptop to log in. But I do appreciate all entries and of course they are all being considered for top picks.
Be sure to scroll down to see if your entry was chosen as a top pick.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is what I created for the Let's Color Linky Party 10.

This funny stamp set "The Odd Couple" is from the May Whimsy Stamps release and includes several sentiments too, like the one I have used. I will be stamping "happily ever after" on the bottom right inside, which is also part of the set, but haven't had time yet to work on the inside of the card.
I colored with Zig clean color brush pens on winsor & newton watercolor marker paper, then matted onto pink card stock and I used some pretty paper to frame the cute image. I just love the looks on the critters faces :-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now onto the top picks from last month. It was really hard, it always is, with so many amazing entries. But I did manage and here they are in no particular order:

Peggy

Love this technique. Peggy posted a link to the tutorial on her blog, if you'd like to find out how this is done, be sure to visit her blog for the link.

Andrea

Andrea did an amazing job coloring this cute Siamese kitty. It's always challenging for me to color cats anything but one color.

Deonna
Love how Deonna's ocean background turned out using watercolors.

Congratulations ladies, below is your top pick badge :-)

Now it's time to get coloring again. Please remember that this month I am really busy and most likely will be very behind with commenting. I am also considering taking a break from the linky party during July, to catch up on commenting and picking top choices, but I will post the top choices with the following linky, which might be the first Saturday in August.

Happy coloring everyone!!
You have until June 28th 10am to link up.

ETA 5/20/18:
To protect the privacy of those who entered this challenge, the linky tool has now been removed.

Whimsy Stamps - Day 2 Rubber Stamp Release

Hello!
It's day two of the Whimsy Stamps rubber stamp release inspiration posts, and today I am sharing a masculine card using another one of Crissy Armstrong's Whimsy stamp sets - Man's Best Friend.

I started out by stamping the dog image on xpress it blending card and colored with copic markers. Next I stamped the image again on a post it note, cut it out to use as a mask and also used post it notes to create the sky/lake. SU and distress inks were used for the background.
Designer papers are from MME. Machine sewing was done along the image panel. I messed up in one of the corners so I decided to add the little triangles to each corner and since it's a masculine card, I decided to add a staple into each corner. The sentiment is part of the set.
Be sure to visit the Whimsy blog to enter into this month's new release prize drawing, super easy to enter!

Playing along in these challenges:
The weather actually got really nice yesterday, and it looks like we're going to have a few nice days coming up. My tulips started blooming yesterday too, and here is photo with one of my kitties, the one who thinks he is the man of the house :-) . I really need to do some garden clean up soon...

Have a great day!!

Watercoloring and My Zig Clean Color Brush Opinion

Happy Monday! I had some time over the weekend to play with my new Zig Clean Color Brush Pens and one of the images I colored was the cute "Doggie's Little Behind" from Whimsy Stamps, which I used on the card below. If you'd like to read my opinion about these brush pens, be sure to read to the end of this post.

As mentioned, I used the zig clean color brush pens and this Zig Detailer Waterbrush, which I also picked up from amazon.

The background was done with a polka dot embossing folder and sentiments are all part of this cute set from Whimsy Stamps.
I kept the card CAS, embellished with a little bit of ribbon scrap which I stapled onto the card, then tied a bow onto the staple using some white twine.

I found a new challenge blog today, CAS Mix Up, and I am going to enter my card there. This is a CAS mixed media challenge where this month's theme is stamping, watercoloring, and "your choice", something you choose from a list on their side bar. I chose embossing folder for my extra choice.

If you are interested in my thoughts about these brush pens, keep reading.

Some of you may know, that I was thinking about getting these brush pens for some time now, but then remembered I had a set of Aquamarkers and a package of Distress Markers (not to mention the 2 packages of high quality artist watercolor paints). My main reason for wanting water soluble markers is for coloring directly onto stamps before stamping, especially for those stamps that require two colors.  And since I found the other markers I decided not to get them. But I kept watching videos about these Zig Brush Pens, and finally changed my mind again and purchased the set of 36.

Here are some of my opinions: They are so easy to watercolor with. I can't believe how nicely the ink dissolves! Of course I am no expert with water coloring, but it's easy to learn  if you have a product that helps you along. I love how vibrant the colors are! While watching lots of videos, I also discovered the Winsor & Newton watercolor marker pad, and decided to get one from Dick Blick. This has been my favorite paper to use with these markers.

About coloring directly onto the stamps: yes, it works and stamps beautifully, but...I won't be using them for this purpose. While trying this technique, I had a feeling the bristles from the brush pens won't last long if I did this more often, so I will  order more of the distress markers for this use.

Do I regret buying them? Not at all. I love watercolor looks and I feel like these are the easiest to use for water coloring. I think they are a great watercolor medium especially if you are new to water coloring and want to learn. Besides the card below I also colored another image which I shared HERE on Instagram .

Do I regret buying only 36 instead of 48 or more - no. I was going to get the set of 48, but the 48 pack seller from amazon had too many negative reviews within the last month, so I chose the pack of 36. I might add a couple more colors someday, but right now it's all the colors I need.
I have seen some complains about not having a "red" red. The color I thought would be red is very pink, bright pink, when dissolved with water, but since these are water soluble, it's easy enough to use a little bit of brown with the pinkish red to tone it down a little.
Again, these are just my own personal thoughts after owning them for a few days.

Sorry, that got a little bit longer than I thought it would.
I need to get off my computer now, been working on blog posts and card edits all morning...getting dizzy staring at the screen for so long...
Hope you all have a fabulous day!!

I added a few die cut stars, which were done with Whimsy's Stacking Star Die

For my card today I used one of Crissy Armstrong's new stamps "Doggie Skywriter".
Isn't it adorable!! I made a "non-traditional colors" Valentine's card with it, perfect for a guy!
Image has been stamped onto copic blending card using memento ink, then colored with copic markers and fussy cut. Papers are from my never ending stash, probably DCWV and some old SU. I love digging through my paper scraps because there is usually something I find to match my image, that I colored. I added a punched border and some twine, then finished off with some paper piercing.

Above is a close up. Isn't this image adorable!!!

Kitty and Butterflies :-)

Happy Wednesday!  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I was lucky enough that my husband was home this year, he took a week of vacation and today was his first day back to work. And he already scheduled a week off for next Christmas too :-)

For today's post I am sharing another cute card made with Whimsy's stamp set "Critter Cuties"

As with my  other critter cuties cards, I also kept this one clean and simple. The kitty has been colored with copic markers. Designer paper is from Stampin Up (really old), and I used a really old SU stamp for all the random dots. The sentiment is part of the Whimsy Stamps set. I added a couple punched out butterflies to finish off the card.

More Critter Cuties

Happy Tuesday! Hope you're all doing good and are enjoying the holiday season! I'm happy to say that my husband finally will be home this Christmas. It's been years! But he now has enough seniority at work so he was able to take a week of vacation!!

A couple weeks ago I shared a card using the cute bunny from the Whimsy Stamps set "Critter Cuties". I had actually wanted to share all 3 cards at once, but ran out of time to make them all, so today I am showing you the card I made with the cute little puppy. He reminds me of Toto from the Wizard of Oz.

He's been colored with copic markers. The card was made in a CAS style. Sentiment is part of the set. Papers are from my stash, I think by SU and MME. I simply embellished with a button and and some twine to finish it off.
I now have also finished the card using the cute kitty from the set, but with the holidays almost here, I have decided to keep it for next week, as I most likely won't be making any cards this week.

Whimsy Stamps - 12 Days of Christmas - Day 4

Happy Wednesday!!
Did you hear yet?? We're having a "12 Days of Christmas" Celebration over at Whimsy Stamps with new Holiday projects from the Design Team and fun prizes to win too.

Every day from 13th December to 24th December, a member or members of the design team will be sharing a brand new Whimsy holiday creation on the Whimsy blog.  Included in these daily posts will be a LETTER.  Visit the blog every day, make a note of each letter and keep them safe.  Once you have collected all 12 letters, you should be able to unscramble them and make a special 3 word phrase.  Email your guess to whimsystampscontests@gmail.com by 31st December 2015, and if you've guessed correctly, you will be entered into the draw to win a fantastic GRAND PRIZE!

But that's not all!  We will also be running some fun SPOT PRIZES throughout the entire event.  The prizes could be hidden here on the Whimsy blog or on our design team members blogs, or even on some of the Whimsy artists blogs, so be sure to leave a comment here and on the other blog posts each day to be in with a chance to win!

Today it's my turn along with the very talented Vicki to post our creations to the Whimsy blog, and this is what I created.

I won't bore you with details how I made it, I simply followed this tutorial from Splitcoast Stampers. Then attached an easel style card to the top.

The beautiful Snowflake Fairy Princess stamp is one of Crissy Armstrong designs for Whimsy Stamps. Snowflake sentiment is from the set Winter Letter Seals. I covered my drawer with designer paper by Bo Bunny and used some snowflakes to embellish. The hardware I used on the front is from an old SU kit.

Above is a closeup of the beautiful stamp. I used mainly copics for coloring, but added some shading on her hair with a Faber Castell polychromos pencil.

This little "drawer box card" is perfect for a little gift like jewelry or you can put $$ or a gift card inside.

Somebunny Loves You

Hello and happy Sunday!
I finally was able to finish a new card last night so I have something new to share. I recently colored all 3 cute critters from the set "Critter Cuties" from Whimsy's November release. I actually wanted to make all 3 cards, but it was late last night when I finally had a chance to play, so I only was able to finish one card.

A very CAS card to keep the focus on this cutie. She's been colored with copic markers. I used markers from the Neutral Gray's and B00 and B02  for the bow. R20 for the pink cheeks and ears. The cute sentiment is part of the set, and it also includes several other sentiments, and a row of paw prints, in addition to the other 2 cute critters. I think this set would be so cute for creating

2 Christmas Tales

Didn't do much blogging or paper crafting last week, so I haven't posted anything new, but today I have two posts :-) This is the second one, if you'd like to see my other cute critter Christmas creations simply scroll down or click here.

The cute image I used on this card is from Whimsy Stamps' October release, a rubber stamp illustrated by Crissy Armstrong. Love Crissy's cute critters! They are so much fun to color and work with!

I stamped the image using Memento ink and colored with Copic Markers and Faber Castell Polychromos pencils on xpress it blending card. Glitter was added to the snow and fur. Designer paper is from DCWV. I added a simple sentiment over a die cut snowflake to finish it off.

You can find the Whimsy products I used here:

Card Front as Wall Decor

Happy Sunday!

Have you ever worked on a card or with an image thinking it is too cute or too pretty to give away? :-) :-)  That's the thought I had after coloring and fussy cutting this cute cute stamp!!! My first thought was to make an ornament using this cute image, but I've been dealing with this cough for so long, that I was just too exhausted to create something out of the ordinary, so I just made a card instead. But I decided to just make a card front and frame it, and use as wall decor in Winter :-)

I stamped a snowy winter's night (evening) background for the cute penguin family. The tree stamps I used for the background are from a Whimsy stamp set from last year (link in product list below). I first used a hand cut mask for the snow hill. Then I flicked some masking fluid onto the background. When it was dry (about 5 minutes later) I inked the background using distress inks. With the hill mask in place I randomly stamped the trees onto the background using the faded jeans distress ink, the lighter trees were done by not re-inking the stamp in between.

I matted the scene onto white card stock, then onto designer paper. The whole thing was then matted onto white card stock to fit the frame I used here. Finished off with diecut snowflake borders (also from Whimsy).

Sentiment is from the set "Holiday Notable 2" and I cut it out using the matching die. Glitter was added to the hat and scarfs, in the corners and the snow hills. It's hard to see, but I added a little bit of ink for "footprints".

Here it is framed. The frame is from a cheap but pretty floral art print I found at Walmart. Maybe I'll find a nicer frame at Goodwill, but if not, I might decorate this one with some felt snowflakes or snowy sprigs from the craft store...

  Product used:
(all of the above are from Whimsy Stamps)
distress inks (weathered wood, faded jeans)
liquitex masking fluid & old brush
designer paper (the paper studio)
recollection 110lb card stock
xpress it blending card, copics
stickles glitter, MS snowflake punch

The word "Merry" is a brand new die, also from this release. "Christmas" is from an older sentiment, I simply masked off the rest of the words from the sentiment.

Christmas sentiments
(all above are from whimsy stamps)
copics, xpress it blending card
memento ink, glitter, gold cord, rhinestones

Summer Pony

Happy Friday :-)

I spent some time creating today, and finished this cute card using Whimsy Stamps' Summer Pony image from the Crissy Armstrong collection. I colored it earlier this week, but didn't get a chance until today to finish the card.

My Faber Castell Polychromos were already out so I colored this image with the pencils and blended with baby oil. I inked the edges with distress inks. Sentiment is from the Friendship Tickets set. (Edited to add - I cannot find this stamp set in the Whimsy Shop. Might have been retired. But be sure to check out the rest of the amazing ticket sentiments.) I used a simple circle punch to punch it out. Some glitter was added to the flowers and the butterflies.
Designer paper is very old from Stampin Up. I sewed around the edges to finish the card.

That is all for today.
Thanks so much for visiting! Enjoy the rest of your day!

Peace on Earth

Hi everyone, just a really quick post, I actually wasn't sure if I was going to be able to finish this card today, but luckily I did. Image was already colored and fussy cut yesterday, so I just created my background, and added the image to the card. I wanted to keep it simpler, but after it was finished, I thought it needed some machine sewing.

In case you are wondering, why I am sharing a Christmas card - this month at Whimsy Stamps we're not having a regular release, instead we are having a Christmas in July month, sharing Christmas cards all month long using our favorite Whimsy Christmas stamps. Be sure to follow the Whimsy blog and DT members if you don't want to miss all the gorgeous Christmas creations by the DT.

Doggie Ice Cream

Happy Sunday! Hope you've had a nice weekend. It's been nice and sunny here yesterday, but a storm did move in last night, and it's been a pretty warm but cloudy day here today. I found some time yesterday to color and fussy cut the cute stamp "Doggie Ice Cream" from Whimsy's latest release. And today I created this CAS card with it.

A very simple sketch, I just adhered the fussy cut image onto my designer paper (old and retired from Whimsy Stamps), then cut the polka dotted designer paper (from Joann's) at an angle to use on the top of the card. Added the sentiment and a strip of basic gray card stock. I embellished with a little glitter and some twine.

Lazy Kitty - Life is Good

Happy Friday and Happy May 1st! This year is flying by way too fast! I hope you're having a wonderful sunny day! We are having some beautiful springtime weather over here in the midwest today, and hopefully it'll stay this way for a few days...

I finally have a new card to share with you, using a new stamp from Whimsy Stamps' April release. This cutie is from the Crissy Armstrong collection - Lazy Kitty.

I stamped the image using Neenah card stock and got out my Derwent Coloursoft pencils for coloring, blended with baby oil.
The card is very simple, I cut out a frame using a nestabilities shape and placed it over my colored image. Then stamped the sentiment, which comes with this stamp :-) Added a strip of designer paper and then some twine to finish it off.

Skunk with Rose for Whimsy Challenge

This is my second post for today, scroll down if you'd like to see the other cute card I posted earlier.

It's the 3rd Wednesday of the month, and that means it's time for a new Whimsy Stamps challenge.
This month, the challenge theme is "use a die cut".

I inked up the cute "Skunk with Rose", just released last week from Whimsy Stamps, illustrated by Crissy Armstrong.
Stamped using versafine onyx ink, and colored using Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. I fussy cut the skunk to make him fit my card design.
The papers are by DCWV and Bo Bunny.

The fun sentiment is from last month's release "Happy Birthday". For my die cuts I used the stitched border dies from Whimsy and a circle nestabilities shape. I embellished with a punched out butterfly and sticky pearls and a little glitter on the rose.

Here is a closeup at the cute image. Not sure if you can tell, but the head was stamped twice and then popped up using 3D tape.

Love and Happiness Puppies

Time for a little Whimsy inspiration on my blog! The cute stamp I used on today's card is one of the newest stamps illustrated by Crissy Armstrong for Whimsy Stamps. Her images are always such a joy to color!

I almost started here by telling you for a change I did no fussy cutting, but then realized I did fussy cut the sentiment (I don't seem to be able to make a card without fussy cutting).
Anyway, the image has been stamped onto copic blending card and then colored with copics. As you can see I used a CAS sketch. I adhered the image panel onto some really old SU desigenr paper. Next I added the ribbon. The sentiment was stamped onto copic blending card, colored and fussy cut. Then I used pop up dots to adhere to the card. The little hearts were part of the sentiment set, and I decided to stamp them onto the white paper. Kind of wished I hadn't...
I added a scallop border on the bottom edge and a little bit of glitter to the flower centers to finish it off.
Products used:
Doggie Gift, to have and to hold (both from Whimsy Stamps)
xpress blending card, recollections card stock 110lb, SU designer paper
memento ink, SU ink (for pink hearts), copics for coloring
scallop border punch, stickles glitter, grosgrain ribbon

Whimsy Stamps Challenge - New Beginnings

Good Morning and thanks for visiting!
As most of you probably know already, Whimsy Stamps has discontinued their digital stamp sale, and therefore the Rubber Stamp design team is now creating a monthly card for the Whimsy Stamps Inspirations challenge. This month our challenge theme is

New Beginnings.

I thought this cute baby stamp illustrated by Crissy Armstrong would be perfect for this challenge, and since it has bee quite some time since I last used it, I decided to ink it up.

I love how this card turned out! The sketch came from a card I pinned a long time ago. I was going to use pink designer paper, but my husband thought a bluish toned paper would look nicer and since he so much more artistic than I am, I followed his advice. And I am happy I did!

Image has been colored with copic markers. The papers I used are really old, I found them digging through my paper scraps. They are probably both by SU. I used a Faber Castell pitt marker for the white dots on the baby's outfit. Embellished with some lace tape, twine and a rhinestone, and finished off with glitter on the stars. I have no idea why all the white looks pinkish in the photo above. It looks white on the camera, but then when I crop and edit it turns pink. This actually happens to me every time there is some pink in my cards.

Here is the product list:
Cradled by the Moon, Life's Moments (both by Whimsy Stamps)
Designer paper scraps, xpress blending card, recollections 110lb white
memento ink, copics for coloring
twine, lace tape, rhinestone, glitter
