Spring Flowers at Penny Black and More

Happy Sunday! It's a new month and that means time for a new theme at Penny Black and More challenge. And March is the perfect timing for a "Spring Flowers" theme, I am sure we all are ready to see them blooming everywhere! We have some great prizes again this month and hope you'll join in!

For my card today I inked up my Magnolia blossom stamp (Penny Black The Unfolding). I planted a small Magnolia tree in my backyard a few years ago, it hasn't grown much yet, but the blossoms smell heavenly! They must be tasting good too, as the squirrels in my backyard will eat them, unfortunately!

For the background I got out my Gelli Plate this time. I've only used it a couple of times before and it's been years ago, I need to check out some youtube videos for some tips as I'm not thrilled about how this turned out. Last time I used craft paint (I think) but I wanted a lighter medium and used my Distress Oxide inks instead. If you are a Gelli Plate user, I'd love to hear from you, what are your favorite mediums when using the Gelli Plate? I used a mix of 3 colors but somehow only one color really shows up. I brayered the inks onto the gelli plate, then pressed a stencil by TCW onto the gelli plate to add a design. Finally made the print on Bristol Vellum paper.

Related Products:

Distress markers were used to color directly onto the Magnolia flower stamp (my Magnolias are much lighter than this pink but I wanted it to show up well on the paper so I used Worn Lipstick and Seedless Preserve markers) and using a stamp platform I stamped it directly onto the gelli printed background. The words on/around the flower were done with a script border stamp from Whimsy Stamps (retired).

Gorgeous make, love the placement of the words over the image too. Your gelli background looks lovely. I follow Gelli arts themselves, they have lots of great tips.

Gorgeous card. I think your background turned out beautifully. I like its subtleness behind the flower. Thanks for playing with us last week at Krafty Chicks Challenge!

The magnolia image is gorgeous, and you've coloured it beautifully. The background is great, soft and delicate so it doesn't compete with the flower but complements it. Such a pretty card! Thank you for sharing it with us at Stamping Sensations.
