A Cute Christmas Card for a Boy with a New Penny Black Stamp

Hello and welcome!

A  new theme starts today at Allsorts challenge and this week it's Tracy's turn to host. She picked the theme of "From Boys to Men" and as always we hope you'll join us and share your new crafty makes with us for a chance to be entered into the prize drawing! We have two prizes this week, a digi prize of winner's choice  from Ruth Hamilton Designs as well as a prize of 2 stamps from Craft Stash.

It's another Christmas card from me, I just recently got this cute stamp set - Christmas Cycling from Penny Black's newest release and I think this set is perfect for masculine Christmas cards, in fact, I think this particular stamp works well for birthday cards too especially for fall or winter themed birthday cards :)

This is my first PB set featuring this dog, I think I heard Jill Foster of Penny Black refer to him as Buster, but please do let me know if I am wrong! I think he's so cute!! And I love the other large stamp from the set even more!!

I stamped the image using Versafine Onyx ink on Bristol Vellum paper then colored with my Zig Clean Color markers and some diluted Distress inks. I want to note that I think Candied Apples Distress ink is a perfect red for masculine cards. All others I find are always too bright or tend to have a hint of pink.

Before assembling my card, I ran the white plain card front through my Big Shot machine using the large Wonky Stitches die by Avery Elle. Then I followed this week's sketch from the My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge

To make the paper strips I used a Tim Holtz stencil from  this Stampers Anonymous set and Scattered Straw Distress ink, cut into strips and adhered to the card.

The image has been fussy cut using my Cutterbee scissors and I used foam tape to adhere to the card. Once again I used the adorable sentiment set Dear Santa. And the small Christmas tree is part of the set Christmas Cycling

Most embellishments in my stash tend to be a bit feminine but I think a few staples work well to add a little more interest to a masculine themed card. But maybe I should have skipped the Wonky Stitches die...

I forgot to mention, before adhering the image I flicked some diluted ink onto the background using my Tim Holtz splatter brush

Many of the items I used are available from Amazon so here is a handy list for those of you interested. Remember, these and some of the links above are affiliate links meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, as always this is at no additional cost to you.

Year in Review Hop Sign Up Reminder:

PS: I wanted to share the linkup again for my Year in Review Hop I am hoping to host in the last week of the year (starting December 29th). I hope there is enough interest. Maybe 5- 15 or 20 bloggers. The linky is open until the end of the month, but I may close it early or extend the sign up period.

  • I will provide the html code for the linky tool to each person signing up. Please include this in your post on your own blogs and all participants will link up their posts using this linky tool directly on  their blogs.
  • You must have a blog to participate - new bloggers are welcome!
  • The linky tool will remain open for 1 week. Your blog followers are welcome to link up their own "Year in Review" post during that time period (even if they haven't signed up as participants).

What a great new stamp - he is so cute too. Love your design and I was thinking I must case how you used the wonky stitches die, it's also a great colour palette.

This is a very cute masculine card Ellie .. I love Buster (or whatever he’s called lol!). Love your colour palette and spattering … and is it just me or have you got the optical illusion going on again as the patterned strips seem to be behind your plain background?? Interested in your note on DI’s ..bi am just building them up and bought my first red .. Barn Door .. and I think that has hints of pink which wasn’t what I wanted it for at the time.

Glad I just checked my comments as seeing yours made me realise I hadn't visited you today, on checking your post's not showing up on my reading list. Hope it's not another curve ball from Blogger.

That PB image is so cute Ellie, my youngest Granddaughter had a Dachshund and would love it, might be going onto a list.

Thanks so much, Lynn! I'm really happy how the colors turned out too!

Thanks so much, Pauline. I have Barn Door Red too and it's a great shade too. Candied Apples is a newer color release and it's a bit of a brownish red so it's a perfect masculine shade of red.
I'm not noticing an optical illusion on today's card like I did on the recent one I posted :)

My mistake this time that my post didn't show on your reading list. I tried to post at the correct time since you had a time change over in Europe already and we hadn't yet here, but I must have done it backwards LOL.

Your granddaughter would surely love a card with these cute stamps!

Hi Ellie, smiled a lot reading your post. Penny Black stamps are wonderful but do know the dog set, you might have set me off on another shopping spree. As for the Gift well my DT sample was a pile of boxes so am pretty sure this card counts, thank you for adding to the flow at River of Creativity. xoxo
