Fashion Over Forty: A Practical Thanksgiving Day Outfit

Hello and welcome to another #FashionFriday post. Hope you had a good week and are ready for the weekend! I've had a busy week because I waited until the last minute to start and complete  my continuing education. While I don't currently work outside the home, I do want to keep the certificate up to date in case I ever want to go back into the workforce, so it had to be done!

Today I'm sharing my take on a Thanksgiving Day outfit and as you can see it's nothing spectacular as we won't be doing anything spectacular. Just the usual turkey dinner spent with the family, which is how I like to spend the day!

I know I will be spending some time in the kitchen, therefore I will be wearing a cardigan over a tshirt, so I can easily take it off if I need to.

I've shown you this cardigan from Loft before when I paired it with a turquoise top. Since it's a neutral color it will pretty much work with any color top. Here I am wearing it with a long sleeve purple top. By the way, this cardigan is still available at Loft in select sizes and is now an extra 40% off which brings it to under $30. In case you're interested - it runs true to size, I wear XS in Loft (and most) tops and have this cardigan in an XS as well. I am only about 5'2" so depending on how tall you are it might be longer or shorter on you. The light neutral color makes this cardigan perfect for all seasons!

In the picture below you can see the side slits and it  has pockets which to me is a plus!

My purple long-sleeve layering tee is by S.O from the Kohl's Juniors department. Usually when I shop in the Juniors department I go up one size so this top is a size Small. This exact color is no longer available but I'd love to have the  purple striped version and might order it when I place my Black Friday order (I usually order from Kohl's on Black Friday).  If you like this purple color, do check out this pretty v-neck tee in the Fuchsia color from Banana Republic. I have a boat neck long sleeve tee from Banana Republic (see photo below) and it's such a soft and comfy material! Currently this shirt is 40% off (ends 11/26/19).

Ends November 26th

My jeans are Nine West Vintage America boot cut jeans. They are currently my favorite pair of boot cut jeans and are super comfortable to wear  all day. Not all denim is that way, but over the years I pretty much got rid of all uncomfortable jeans as I do spend all day long in blue jeans (unless I'm at the gym), and I want/need them to be comfortable.

These jeans are old and I can't find a link to them, but these Ab-Solution Boot cut jeans (also available in Petite) have some great reviews!

I did try to find links to Nine West jeans, but apparently the company filed for bankruptcy last year, so they are no longer available. But you can always check out Ebay listings if you don't mind buying pre-owned. I recently purchased another pair of AG jeans from Ebay (not that I needed them!!)

So these pumps I put on "just for fun". (I won't be wearing them while at home in the kitchen). I'm not so sure they work with the colors of the outfit, but my husband (aka photographer 😃) said they're fine (he probably just wanted to see me wearing high heels as I so rarely do!)

These heels are by Clarks Artisan. I find Clarks shoes to be very comfortable even with a heel. These are a Goodwill find, I think I only paid $6.99 for the pair. The thought of buying used shoes was a little bit weird, but there's a lot of info online on how to give used shoes a good clean (this  is a good article). While personally I wouldn't buy used sneakers (unless they look brand new) I think it's a great place to look for dress shoes that you will only wear a few times a year (or less like me). These looked like new!

I found the exact pair (in a size 8) on Ebay if you're interested, but as it usually goes with Ebay there is only one pair available. These do run true to size. I'm usually wearing between 7.5 to 8 in all kinds of shoes and I have these in a 7.5. More pre-owned Clarks styles are listed here.

In the picture above I've styled the same cardigan with a striped orange-y red tee from Banana Republic.  While the neckline on this long sleeve shirt is not my favorite, it's soooo soft to the touch and comfortable! But it's old and I have no direct link.

I'm also wearing my Clark Booties instead of the heels. As mentioned in previous posts, these booties are old - these  Ankle Boots would be a great alternative (also by Clarks ).You might also want to check these Ebay listings for lower price options on pre-owned Clarks booties.

The necklace I'm wearing is part of a layering necklace by Lucky Brand. It's no longer available, but if you like medallion type necklaces, I did find this pretty one at Kohl's currently less than $10 (with coupon) and I also love this sterling silver pendant necklace. You might also find the perfect necklace on Amazon.

The look below I've shared before in early fall using the same cardigan.  You can read all about this it HERE if you missed it.

Below are snippets of the items mentioned in my post, I've included links under the images.

1. Medallion Necklace Option (currently under $10!)
5.  Bootcut Jeans - New Option (also avail. in Petite)

As always thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog. Hope you enjoy your weekend! My husband took a week of vacation during the Thanksgiving week, so he will be home this holiday (it happens so rarely that he doesn't have to work on holidays!) He has plans on sorting though some clutter in the basement, we'll see how that goes!

If I get time during this weekend, I might share a "Favorite Picks from Kohl's" post on Monday as I begin to look for favorites.  I love shopping at Kohl's in the Thanksgiving week! However, I won't be hitting the store, I'll be shopping from home. Crowds are not my thing! Since my Nordstrom Favorites from the Fall Sale blog post received lots of views, it seems like there is an interest in these types of posts.

Thanks Mireille. I too rarely wear heels and put these on for fun. But my youngest just reached my height and I may need to start wearing them so I'm not the shortest :-)

I think the heels go well with the purple shirt but completely understand why you wouldn't be wearing them at home while cooking. I still have yet to pick out an outfit but really like the idea of a cardigan that can easily be taken off as I do tend to get quite warm while cooking.

I'm in the same boat! My CEUs are due in December and I need to start on them ASAP! It's hard to find the time, but it's important to me to maintain my certification. You just never know and I didn't work that hard just to let it expire! Love that color top on you!

YES! A practical Thanksgiving outfit in blog land. I will be wearing something similar. A short sleeve top in case I get hot or messy in the kitchen, but then I will have a cardigan nearby when I can step away from the kitchen for a few minutes.
