Fashion Over Forty: Velvet Jeans for a Dressier Look

This post includes affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, at no cost to you! Thank you so much for your support!

If you've been following along my "Fashion over Forty" posts then you might have already guessed that I practically live in blue jeans. But there are occasions when I need/want something other than blue jeans and when I saw these black velvet pants at Loft last year I decided to order them. And guess what, they brought them back again this year! In case you are interested in these, I think they run true to size and if in between sizes, then size down.

I like that they still have the jeans look to them but a little bit dressier since they are made of velvet and they are so soft and comfortable. Available in regular, petite, tall, curvy and modern sizes.

I paired the velvet jeans with a silver gray tunic sweater (this is another hand-me-down from my sister) and a pale pink scarf I've had in my closet for a few years.
No direct link to the sweater, but I really LOVE this diamond texture sweater from Loft as an alternative and I think it looks very similar to mine. Loft  has such a great selection of sweaters!
(By the way, starting 11/16 these pants and sweater mentioned are both 40% off)

I wore my comfortable booties by Clarks. These are old but I do love this pair as an alternative to my boots. Otherwise I think these jeweled flats from Loft would look beautiful as well and make the outfit a little bit dressier. I also like these pointy toe heeled pumps and these block heel pumps look like a great option as well.

I think any color scarf would have been great with this outfit, but I picked a pink scarf because I love  to pair pink and gray! This beautiful vintage blush blanket scarf would be a great option especially for colder weather. And this pink scarf would be a thinner alternative if you don't like a blanket scarf.

My bag was purchased from Walmart a couple of years ago. I thought the pinks were a perfect match even though purchased at different places. No direct to link to my bag, but I did find this beautiful blush bag for under $20 and it has great reviews! For a higher priced real leather version I love this crossbody bag from TJ Maxx.

I did wear a layered necklace under the scarf. Just something I picked up at a shop in Germany when we visited last year. It was inexpensive but I love the simple look! This layered necklace would be something comparable.  It come with 3 layers that can be worn together or separate.

Below I've untucked the sweater. I'm not sure which way I like it better...

Below are snippets of the products mentioned in the post and I've linked them below. Remember some of these are affiliate links meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, as always at no cost to you.

10. Leather Crossbody Bag (higher priced)

So what do you think of this outfit? Would you ever wear velvet pants? They are definitely on the dressier side but can be dressed up or down depending on what top you pair them with and what kind of shoes you choose.

As always thank you so much for stopping by!!

I think the fit of your velvet pants makes them very versatile. That is a pretty look and I like the addition of your pretty scarf.

I don't have any velvet pants - but I do have a velvet belt! haha! I tend to think of it as a fabric that's too warm for our mild winters here, but these look great on you and I love the pink accessories with the grey knit! :)

Hope that you have a great weekend ahead of you! It will be a quiet one here, we are all a little unwell and the smoke haze means we need to stay indoors mostly!

Thanks for visiting, Mica. I can imagine velvet being too warm in your climate. Staying indoors sounds like a great plan to recover from illness and to stay away from the smoke haze. Hope you all feel better soon!

I've never tried velvet pants, I'd be afraid they would collect a lot of lint. I do own a couple of velvet shirts though. I love pink and grey as a color combo. Such a great look.

Ellibelle said...

No lint on these even though they are black and I have cats, must be the reason why they are on the pricier side (altough currently 40% off). I've had a velvet top years ago and it didn't collect lint either.
Thanks for stopping by!

Die Samthosen sind eine wunderbare Alternative zu Denim finde ich. Man kann sie im Alltag oder festlich tragen, sie bieten tolle Möglichkeiten. Du gefällst mir sehr gut in dem Outfit :)

Ellibelle, I love this outfit! The pale pink scarf is brilliant with black and gray. And velvet is my favorite cold weather fabric. I have a few pairs of velvet pants, but I think I tossed them in the Poshmark bag because I just never wore them. I think they maybe just aren’t that flattering of a cut on me. Perhaps I need a different style of velvet pants. Anyway, great styling! And thanks for linking up.

Lovely look! I always love pink and grey! The soft light grey looks great with the velvet pants. I used to have a pair when I was younger- I love the cut. Great style to dress up for the Holidays.

Now I just need to get them photographed and listed on Poshmark! LOL. There is always something to do that gets pushed to the bottom of the list! That would be Poshmark for me!
