A Borrowed Buffalo Plaid Button Down Shirt

Having a teenage daughter is so much fun!! I get to borrow her clothes :-) She picked up this buffalo plaid button down top from Target with some Christmas money she received. And since this wouldn't neccessarily be something I'd pick out for myself, she allowed me to try it on and see how I like the look of it at this time in my life. (I'm sure I had one or two plaid button downs at some point in my teenage years.)

Buffalo plaid prints have been a big trend last fall, and from what I read online the trend will continue into spring along with other plaid patterns. By the way, this shirt is still available at Target online and possibly even at your local store. I'm wearing XS and it runs true to size. It's made out of a soft rayon and not a thick flannel, so it would be perfect for spring.

I decided to layer it over a white scoopneck long sleeve tee (old - similar option, short sleeve option),  left unbuttoned and I've worn it the way I'd wear a cardigan. My daughter has worn it yesterday layered over a black tank and it looked great as well.

My jeans are AG skinny jeans I purchased from eBay for a much lower price than what they are originally sold for, folded up once for an ankle fit. These leather booties are by Miz Mooz (very comfortable), but not very practical for our current weather (snow) but I wanted to try this top on with a pair of brandy colored boots. I purchased my boots from Nordstrom a couple of years ago, but this specific style is no longer available there, however I did find them on Amazon, otherwise directly at Miz Mooz or from eBay. They run true to size.

This beautiful cat  loves to bite. She recently bit into my upper arm as she was laying on me. For no apparent reason! I think she was bothered by my breathing and the way my arm must have moved as I was taking a breath. Silly cat!! You cannot trust her! Luckily I was wearing a knit sweater on that day.

The sleeves were a little bit too long on me so I decided to fold them up a couple of times for a better fit.

For accessories I'm wearing a simple silver toned double strand necklace I found at Target several months ago (alternative options HERE.) Maybe a bracelet would have been nice to add, but I rarely think of those details because I tend to be a minimalist when it comes to style.

I've linked up a few more plaid options below for those of you interested.

This is such a good luck on you. My daughter and I use to share clothes when she lived at home too. I wish I could wear my button downs open like this, but I have too much of a tummy.

It really is, Jill! I'm lucky she doesn't mind, in fact she was the one suggesting it :-)
Thanks for visiting!

Thanks so much, Amy! I want to try this shirt again paired with some spring colors. Might have to pay her for it LOL.

Ellie, this is such a wonderful cool and casual look! I love Buffalo plaid. It gives such a warm vibe but it is also edgy. You look so great! And how fun to share clothes with your daughter. You have an excuse to double your wardrobe now!

What a fun shirt, I like how you wore it unbuttoned here, such a nice layering piece! :) It's sweet you can share wardrobe pieces with your daughter, with only boys I won't have that - although my sister and I still borrow pieces from each other's wardrobe sometimes despite living far apart! :)

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend :)

Thanks so much, Shelbee! It really is wonderful being able to share. She recently borrowed my pink buffalo plaid sweater I recently shared an outfit with here :)

Thanks so much for stopping by, Mica. And how fun that you get to share with your sister dispite living far apart!

I have 4 plaid shirts, one is similar to this one. I don't wear them very often because I don't like button downs much but I do like it as a layering tool.

I too don't like them as button downs, therefore I don't own any (besides a hand me down from my sister that I've never worn) but was really surprised by how much I liked wearing it this way!
Thanks for stopping by, Mireille!

I hardly have any of these shirts, but they work for everything. We do have a kitty that looks just like yours. Her name is Monkey, but she's sweet and only bites us when we are brushing her and have to comb through a mat in her fur.

I swear you can't trust any cat! Our cat will be purring one minute then chasing your feet the next! Haha! That's a great shirt! It's so nice you can borrow from your daughter sometimes!

Such a cute outfit! I don't own any plaid shirts, which is insane! I definitely need to rectify that xo

That's a great versatile shirt! My daughter is just starting to "borrow" my stuff now...maybe one day it'll be the other way round. Your cat looks so cute but looks can be deceptive I guess! My cat has lost all of his canine teeth so he can't do much damage now, even if he wanted to! Thanks for linking up!
