Fashion Over Forty: An Alternative to Blue Jeans

Hello and happy Friday!
Spring is definitely on the way, that means it's time to put away those thick winter sweaters and get out the cardigans :-) I hope to find some time this weekend to re-organize my closet, but the weather is supposed to be nice and I need to get the rest of the oak leaves raked. These oak trees are always the last to lose their leaves - usually not until mid December, and by that time I don't care about raking them anymore and it's too cold, so they stay until March (or maybe an unseasonably warm winter day).

Luckily most of my transitional clothes I keep in the closet year round so it's not such an urgent matter to get organizing, but I do want to get to it soon so I have an idea what I have on Spring and Summer clothes before I buy anything new.

For this week's post I decided to get out of my style rut and wear something other than blue jeans. These green colored skinny pants were perfect on this sunny (almost spring) day.

These Calvin Klein ankle skinnies were a clearance find at TJMaxx a couple of months ago, so I don't have a direct link, but will try to find similar options and link them below. As with most pants I had to fold them up for an ankle fit (shortgirlproblem!)

My lavender top is a thin knit sweater from Kohl's, again no direct link as I've had it for about 2 or 3 years.

I love this time of the year as I can finally wear cardigans again! I don't wear them outside of the house during the winter months because they'd be longer than my winter jackets and most (if not all) of mine are the open style with no buttons, so they are not practical for me in winter. This specific cardigan is from Loft, purchased last September and no longer available. But I find that LOFT always has a great selection of cardigans, this cardigan has a similar look to it, or click HERE to view the rest of LOFT's cardigans. As I type this they are all 40% off. The sale ends on Monday the 9th.

My ankle boots are by Miz Mooz. Mine were purchased at Nordstrom a couple of years ago. While no longer available there, Miz Mooz still has a couple of sizes left directly from their site, otherwise you can find them on Amazon. They run true to size and made of the softest leather. I do wear them more in fall than spring, but they are perfect for early spring days.

The silk scarf I 've had for a long time although I don't wear it too often. I'm pretty sure it's the only thing I have that resembles the trending animal prints. While I'm not one to follow trends, I like to add subtle hints of trends on occasion.

This cognac saddle bag is a favorite, but seeing these pictures I wish I had picked a different one to wear with this outfit...

That's all I have for pictures today, we didn't get too many taken, so I'm sharing a fun sepia colored version....If only I had worn my 'never worn' black and white polka dotted fit and flair dress :-) It would be much more appropriate in this vintage looking photo!!!

Below I've linked to similar items for those of you interested. As a reminder these and some of the above links are affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase through the links. This is at no cost to you. As always, thank you for your support!

Thanks Mireille! I had pink in mind but my pink sweater was too thick, so I went with this pale purple instead :)

So cute! I love the color combo. I've been noticing that green cargo pants are really trending this spring and also green pants like what you're wearing.

We are having this Monday on Stylish Monday the theme colored denim. Your trousers are fantastic, I don't like blue jeans at all. But these green ones are just perfect.

Such a nice outfit. I especially like the boots, but alas, no one had them in my size.

I really like your bag with this outfit! :)

I like wearing different colours jeans to break up all the blue jeans too, I used to have almost all blue jeans in my wardrobe! It's a lot more varied now! :)

Hope that you had a great weekend :) Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp last week :) I just posted this week's linkup, if you want to join again.

I'm so used to wearing blue jeans all the time, and it's great to switch things up, I need to do it more often!
Thanks for visiting!

Thanks so much, they are an older model so no longer available in all the sizes.

Thanks Mica. It's not easy breaking out of old habits, so I usually reach for blue jeans. I have a few colored jeans in my closet but rarely wear them...

Thanks Monica. They are so comfortable!

Thanks Amy. I had cargo pants many many years ago. Not a fan of them anymore, but they could be practical for hiking if made out of the right material.
Thanks for stopping by!

That is a great spring look! I need to get to my closet and re-arrange a few things so my more winter type clothes can get swapped out with my more spring/summer clothes.

Love the green and the lavender colors together and it's so nice to have an alternative (or two) to jeans. The vintage photo is a fun touch!

Ellie, I swear I commented on this post but maybe it didn’t go through! I find that happens all too often. But if I have sent two comments, please feel free to delete the duplicate! Anyway, you create the most unique color combinations that I would never even consider. And they always work out beautifully! This olive and lilac combo is so great. I am going to give it a try! Thanks for linking up.
