Fashion Over Forty: A Casual Fall "Go- To" Outfit with a Sage Green Utility Jacket and a Mustard Colored Bag

Hello and welcome! Just like that it's October already!! How is that possible!!

We've still enjoyed some beautiful summer like weather this past week but on the day these outfit pictures were taken it was rather chilly with just around 65 degrees (Fahrenheit) and a breeze blowing. Yes I'm one of those people that appreciates a thin jacket on days like that!

So today's outfit is another one of my "go-to" outfits for a transitional season, whether it's for spring or fall, I simply select accessories (like a bag) to make it work for the that specific season. Here I added a mustard colored crossbody bag which is a great color for this time of the year!

I apologize, I don't have the best photos to share, they were taken after a 3 hour car ride. I don't normally like to take photos for the blog after such a long ride, but my daughter's pointe shoe fitting appointment was a little bit later that day and I knew we'd have a little extra time, so I brought my DSLR camera along and I figured we could see if any of the pictures would be ok to use. And it's always fun to have a different location for pictures! We've actually been to this location 3 times this year and I'm glad we finally were able to take a few photos with the "big" camera. Of course we forgot to switch the setting back to "normal" from "macro" (which is the setting I always use for my card pictures) and the lighting wasn't ideal. But I did find 3 usable pictures after all :-)

I can't believe there was a time not so long ago where I didn't own a single utility jacket (maybe 5 years ago) and now I have 4. This one is my most recent purchase, but it was a thrifted purchase so I only paid $5.99 for it. Honestly the last thing I needed was another utility jacket in my closet, but how could I resist the price!!! And I just love the sort of military styling of this jacket and this pretty shade of  sage green.

This exact jacket from American Eagle is no longer available, but you may be able to find your size at a resale site like ThredUp, Poshmark or Ebay. I'm wearing a size Medium here, (my usual size would be Small for jackets) but I like this slightly oversized look.

I do like this one by Gap as an alternative option and Amazon has several to choose from.

I paired my jacket with a white v-neck tshirt I found a couple of years ago at Marshalls (by Cynthia Rowley). If there ever was a perfect white t-shirt this one is truly it! And this one I really wish I could link to!! The t-shirt does  have a shirttail hem, but I never wear it untucked and usually do a French tuck (a.k.a front tuck) like I did here.

My slim straight jeans are by White House Black Market. I've had these for a while but they were too long on me and I didn't wear them often. Then raw edges and straight fit jeans became more and more popular, and I finally made the decision to simply cut off the extra. I've done this with another pair of jeans too :-)

My slip-on sneakers are by Taos, these are my go-to sneakers for spring and fall. This color (charcoal wash) is no longer available at the Taos website, but many sizes are available on Amazon. They run true to size and come with a removable foot bed that featured arch/ metatarsal support which makes them very comfortable!

I wanted to add a fall color to this outfit (I actually debated wearing a rust colored t-shirt but decided against it although I'm sure it would have worked) so I chose this mustard colored crossbody bag. I love how this color coordinates with the rest of the outfit.

Do you own a utility jacket and do you find yourself wearing it a lot? Or are these types of jackets too casual for your lifestyle?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Such a cute fall look. I own three utility jackets myself, so I know how you feel haha! They are actually all very different. One is nylon, so its more suitable for rain, one is very small and tailored, and one is very oversized so it can be worn over bulkier things.

They really are perfect for when there is a chill in the air!

I'm pretty sure you were the one introducing me to utility jackets :-) I didn't know what I was missing! Mine are different too, some hooded some short, other colors etc. But don't have a utility rain jacket.

That's a great jacket and what a bargain find !I really like the mustard bag with it, mustard and green are always a fun combination! I have a little black utility jacket but I really need to look at adding an olive one to my wardrobe, they are practical pieces!

Hope you have had a lovely weekend :)

Great utility jacket! I cannot help myself when I come accross a good jacket and have to add them to my closet. Still warm here though but I think you have inspired me to go thrifting later this week for fun outing. Today, we are heading to the aquarium!
