Fashion Over Forty: A Burgundy Tunic Sweater on a Glorious Autumn Day

This post includes some affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, at no cost to you! Thank you so much for your support!

Good Morning, Happy Friday and Happy November!! When these pictures were taken I was actually sick and it might have been better to stay home, but it was such a beautiful and sunny fall day, probably our last warmer day this fall, and I wanted to get some fresh air. I'm still not having my "normal" voice back and this cough seems to stick around for too long! But I guess it's this time of the year...In the meantime we received our first snow of the season a couple of days ago.

This burgundy tunic sweater was one of the sweaters I ordered a few weeks ago from Target. I don't normally wear turtlenecks as I find them bothersome, but saw this one featured on Cyndi Spivey's blog, liked it and decided to try it since I already wanted to order the blush colored sweater I showed you in last Friday's post.

          >>>>Sale Alert: BUY ONE GET ONE 50% OFF ALL SWEATERS AT TARGET. ENDS 11/2

This sweater is so compfy and the turnleneck wasn't bothering me at all since the the material is another soft knit, not at all scratchy, and it's not tight around the neck. Plus it's the only tunic style sweater (besides a  hand-me-down from my sister) that I own, and they are the perfect lengths sweaters to wear with skinny jeans (or leggings) to keep your  backside covered.

This sweater has slight dolman sleeves which makes it a loser fit. To keep the proportions right I paired it with skinny jeans.

Last week Brooke of Pumps and Push Ups  ran sponsored post on her blog about cuddle duds and you can bet her post inspired me to dig mine out from the back of my closet to wear under this sweater on this day. I don't usually get them out until winter, but since I was sick I wanted that extra layer under the sweater. I have to agree with Brooke, Cuddle Duds are so comfy even though they fit close to the body and I think they are the perfect layering piece under a sweater for extra warmth. I purchased mine at Bergners years ago, but the chain has closed since. You can find them at Kohls. I have one in navy and one in white. I'm pretty sure mine are both the Soft Wear Crew, but the Soft Knit Crew sound really cosy too and I love this striped one

They do come in v neck and crew neck. I personally prefer these in a crew neck as it covers more of the chest area which is important to me in the winter months. For sizing reference, I suggest going up one size. While I usually wear XS in tops, both my cuddle dud tops are size S and fit well and close to the body as they should, but I think the XS would be a little but too tight.

My skinny jeans are by Banana Republic. Mine are old but these jeans look pretty identical to me.  Not related to my outfit, but as I was looking for a link for the jeans, I came across this beautiful scarf. Wish I needed a new scarf!!

I brought a fall jacket along in case I needed it. It was warm enough where I didn't actually need to wear it, but I put it on for the photos. This jacket is from Old Navy, but purchased two seasons ago.  While it's not the same, this water resistant olive parka would be a great alternative (As I type this you can use code SWEET to get 20% off the parka.)  I also found this hooded parka at TJ Maxx with detachable hood which seems like a great option for colder weather. I'm thinking about ordering it in black.

I decided to wear my Clarks booties again, unfortunately they are old. I found this pair at Zappos and think they would make a great alternative. The heel is about the size of the heel on my booties and I really love the button details on the side! If you're looking for a lower heel, check out these suede boots also by Clarks. Remember Zappos always has free shipping and return shipping.

I seem to be wearing my black bag on repeat currently. Black is a great color for fall and I'm pretty sure it goes with everything, especially in fall. This specific bag is by Chaps and no longer available. I really like this leather crossbody saddle bag with adjustable strap by The Sak. For a lower price option this midi flap bag from Target is under $30 and has great reviews.

Yes, a necklace would have been nice, but we were just out for a walk in the park and I'm all about simplicity so I left it off. Once again I am wearing my prescription sunglasses. Aviator frames are by Vera Bradley picked up from a local eyecare clinic, but you can find non-prescription sunglasses by Vera Bradley at Amazon.

I got a hold of my camera as well while we were out and took these gorgeous fall pictures. They are pretty much the reason why fall used to be my favorite season. As I have gotten older I still enjoy this time of the year very much, but with the extreme cold and long Winters we had in the recent years I can no longer say Fall is my favorite season :-(

Finally here are snippets of the items mentioned in my post. You can click on each one which will lead you to the store where they are available for purchase.  Remember, some of these are affiliate links meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, this is at no cost to you.

I haven't worn any turtlenecks in a while but I do like the chunky ones like your weather. I usually don't like anything too tight on my neck or on my hands.

I'm the same way that I don't like anything tight around my neck. I thought this sweater would go back for sure, but it was so comfy even around the neck and it was a keeper for sure!

Such a cosy autumn outfit! I like the burgundy knit with the olive jacket too :) I always want comfortable snuggly pieces when I'm not feeling well too! You look great in these pics but I hope you feel better soon!

Hope that you had a great weekend :) Despite a bit of a rainy one we managed to get to the beach which was nice :)

Thank you Mica! Still not completely well (I think this is the longest cold virus I've ever had!!) but at least last night I didn't wake up choking from coughing, so I'm definitely getting better!

A great day for pictures for sure, it's gorgeous there and so are you. Love the longer tunic sweater look. I wish we had a target as they always have cute things at a reasonable price point.

Oh this is such a gorgeous turtleneck! I'm glad you decided to give it a try and that it worked out for you! I was the same as you until recently - I thought turtlenecks were a no-go. But I've warmed up to them and have found they are not all created equal. :) Looks like a beautiful day there for sure with gorgeous leaves! Also- thanks for letting me know about the broken link on my blog the other day! Always appreciate when people tell me those things. Sadly the bracelet you liked sold out, but if you search up "Bohoque Multi-Layered Leather Wrap Bracelet" on Amazon they have one that's a really similar emerald green for ten bucks. :)

That turtleneck is so cute! I think it all depends on how tight the neck is and how high it goes if I like turtlenecks or not. But when you find a good one, it's so nice for chilly weather! They are so nice and warm!

Such a great sweater! And a super cozy outfit. Perfect for an autumn walk. I love the color of the sweater and I am a big fan of turtlenecks because I am always so cold. We have our snow due to arrive tonight. Thanks for joining my link party.

Thank you so much for visiting, Gina. It was surely beautiful the day we took these pictures, now there is snow on the ground and I am looking forward to seeing it gone :-)
It's true not all turtleneck sweaters are the same. I've really been liking them this year and it was surely cold enough for me on too many occasions!
